What's New!
On Saturday 12th December Dundonald Gmnastics Club put on their annual xmas display.
This was a chance for the parents to see the results of all their childrens hard work throughout the year.
It was also an opportunity for everyone to see the competition gymnasts performing their routines on floor, bars and beam and celebrate the success the club has had in its 3rd year as a competitive club.
Santa was on hand to give out gifts and meet with the kids. The club committee manned tombola, bottle, pocket money, raffle, merchandise and refreshment stalls with all proceeds raising money for the club.
We also had a photography studio was set up to allow families to get pictures of their own little performers.
A great day was had by all and we raised £1600 for the benefit of the club.
Big thank you to everyone involved especially all donations that assisted in making the raffle and stalls such a success on the day. Merry Xmas! -------------------------------- ------------------------------- The tea/coffee, juice and healthy snacks have been a big success and will continue to be available. If you would like to help man the table please let a committee member know - your help would be much appreciated.
Dundonald Gymnastics Club was founded in 1994 as part of South Ayrshire Councils sport development scheme. The Activity Centre, in Dundonald, provided the venue for recreational gymnastics to the local community and with newly qualified coaches Linda Kelly and Sylvia McLeish a class of around twenty members was formed.
In 1995 Andy McKenna, a senior club coach was employed by SAC and the club developed to include gymnasts from Muirhead Activity Centre to form an advanced class. These classes were continued after Mr McKenna’s retirement and an Intermediate class was formed due to demand.
More recently coaches Laura Ellis and Scott Telford have been welcomed to the Club and along with helpers Pauline McLellan and Claire Blaire they have been a vital part in allowing the Club to develop and become independent, bringing new skills and expertise.
In February 2006 the club coaches made the decision to make Dundonald an independent club and registered with the Scottish Gymnastics Association. Since then the club has increased its membership to around 100 gymnasts.
The club has invested in equipment to provide an effective training environment for participation in competitive Women’s Artistic Gymnastics. It has further invested in training for both existing and new coaches including two senior gymnasts, Katherine Kilpatrick and Sarah Brown, in order to provide a sustainable long term future for the club. In June 2007 the club appointed its first parent based committee to support the administration and development of the club.
The club’s objective is to provide children within the local community the opportunity for participation in recreational and competitive gymnastics in a safe and rewarding environment.
